Haberdashery Needlework News ~ Winter/Spring 2006/2007
Our new address seems to have helped and the shop is doing well. We have achieved more than I have ever dreamed about, in such a small amount of time. Now it is time to speed ahead, and we can only do it with your help. Word has gotten around, and those words have mostly been about our excellent customer service. This has been an easy thing to accomplish though, with such great customers. All of you have really shown your appreciation for all that we try to do and we always appreciate your support.
We have many new ideas in the works, including improvement to our web site (www.haberdasherydesigns.com) and new teachers for workshops and classes. We continue to stock as much great product as possible, unfortunatly there are some things we just can’t fit into our limited space. If there is anything we don’t carry in store (this includes floss, fabric, books and patterns) we can always get it for you, just be patient as orders are filled every four weeks on average. There are many things that are still on our “wish list” that will help complete our in store stock, but this is a slow and ongoing process that has started from the first day our doors were open. As anyone who was there those first days can tell you, we’ve come a very long way.

Anniversary Class
Come join us for the event of the year. In addition to our annual Anniversary kits, we will also be hosting the nationally known finisher Judy Odell. She will be here for a 2 day finishing workshop for her “My Treasure Workstation”. All details are below. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and sign up as spaces are limited and going quickly.

Where: Haberdashery Designs
Hosting: We will attempt to host those out-of-towners who would like
to stay with a local stitcher. Space will be lim ited and offered
on a first-come first-serve basis.
Cost: Kit-$85.00 Class fee-$140.00 Total-$225.00
Payments: Kit fee ($85) and Class Deposit ($50) Total ($135) Due by

Friday ~ Firefly Social
Firefly socials are held on the last Friday of each month from 6:00
to 9:00 with a few exceptions. Along with a great group and atmosphere,
we will be providing a catered dinner. These events will also be your
first opportunity to see the newest kits. Space is limited to 20 people,
so reserve your spot soon.
Event registration costs $10.00. Pre-registration is required and
the registration fee is non-refundable. All participants who register
will be required to sign a liability waiver. Registration can be done
at any time for any or all dates listed below only. All cancellations
will be done immediately and those spots will be filled. No un-cancellations.
All dates are subject to change and cancellation. If an event is cancelled
by management, all money will be refunded. The next dates and meals
are:
January 26th ~ Frozen foods (unless
we get a warm snap)
February 23rd ~ Stuff you eat
March 30th ~ Some stuff you may not want to eat
The Canvas Bag
Another Bag day coming soon. It’ll happen when you least expect
it, and you will only find out on the day it happens. So if your feeling
“lucky” you just may know when it is.
We don’t have any more bags, so stop asking.
Kit of the Month
Two new kits for our “kit of the month” programs will be
out. As always they will be presented at each Firefly event. We won’t
tell you what they will be, so you should come to Firefly if you want
to be “in the know” before anyone else.

Class Policies
Class fee must be paid at the time of registration to reserve your spot
in the class.
A one-week notice prior to the class starting date is required to receive
a refund. NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN WITHOUT A WEEKS NOTICE!
Management has the right to cancel any class at any time.
If a class has to be cancelled, we will notify all students 48 hours
before the beginning of the class.
Class fee does not include supplies unless otherwise noted.
A list of materials needed for each class will be provided at the time
of registration.
Please do not bring cell phones, children, pets, or husbands to class.
(unless he wants to learn the new technique)
Remember to register early because these classes will fill fast. If
you have a suggestion for a class or would like to teach a class please
let us know.

Free Day Classes
It’s our goal to make sure everyone is able to complete the projects
that are started. We have a big table and plenty of knowledge and experience
to provide. A few pointers, a refresher on a complicated stitch, or
just some basic advice. This time is free, but we are also busy helping
many others and running the store. If you need more in depth instruction,
feel free to schedule a private class. Details are available just come
in and ask.

Tatting Class
Shuttle Tatting is a very Victorian way to make lace and only requires
knowledge of one basic knot, the Double knot. It resembles a macramé
lark's head knot. The hardest part of learning is knowing how to drape
the thread around or on your hand so that the shuttle can be manipulated
to make the knots. When you start to learn it will seem like you may
need 2 more hands but with a little patience, practice, and persistence
tatting will become second nature. Classes are 6 to 9 on:
February 6th, 13th, 20th ~ March 6th, 13, 20th
May 8th, 15th, 22nd ~ July 10th, 17th, 24th
August 7th, 14th, 21st ~ October 9th, 16th, 23rd
Class fee is $45.00 for 3 classes. A minimum of 3 participants is required,
or classes will be canceled.
Create-a-Class
To facility those that would like to learn something new, we encourage
you to come in and “create” a class. Pick a day, pick a time,
pick a technique/project. Cost and availability of time will very. Class
costs start from $10-15, and go up from there, depending on complexity
and time. Come in and learn something new today, or tomorrow, or whenever
you choose.
Temari Balls
Originally toy balls for children made from scrap thread, Temari balls
became a colorful Japanese craft. Come learn this thread winding technique
of colors and patterns. We will supply the starting ball. You will need
to pick the rest of your supplies (list provided at sign-up) to allow
you to create your own custom design. Classes will be scheduled based
on interest and enrollment, please check back later for final date and
time. Fee is $20.

VIP Cards
At the start of the new year (2007 for those without a current calendar)
we will be introducing a new program, VIP cards. These cards represent
a one year membership in our VIP club. The $25 club fee provides you
with the following benefits:
~ 10% off pre-selected items every month, such as needles, patterns, etc
~ 15% off any Haberdashery design at anytime
~ 25% off for all purchases made on the card holders Birthday
~ One Free Night Out at any Firefly event
All VIP club members will be issued a members card. Along with the above benefits, the card and membership also have the following rules and restrictions:
~ Membership is non-transferable. If the card is attempted to be used be any other person, membership will be revoked.
~ Membership is valid for one year from time of purchase.
~ No refunds of membership fee.
~ Cards will not be replaced if lost, stolen, or damaged.
~ Membership discounts cannot be combined with any other sales or discounts.
Cards are still in the design and layout phase. They will become available sometime in January, 2007. Keep checking back for more information.

We would like to remind all of you that the Internet is a great place to share ideas and scope out the newest things for stitching. But if you want the luxury of having a “neighborhood” stitch shop we need your support. Please call or stop by if you need anything. Remember we might be able to save you at least the price of postage! We hope to provide you with a shop you’ll want to come back to for many years. If you’re looking for a particular pattern, just write it down and bring it in, we will be happy to add what you want to our next order. We’ll even mail it to you.
